yes all the episodes were dubbed in English for being aired on cartoon network in India in 90's which i watched as a kid ,but they were never released as a dvd or such form .They still have the dubbed version with them.surprisingly even the lip-sync was perfect ,but they do not have the copyrights to release them so for now we have to satisfy with the subtitles :(
and NO they are not lost forever but still with them. but as i said they do not have the rights to release them.I think they have them in vhs form not sure . But may be in future to come some how they might come out some how .
I've spent a lot of time researching the exposure of Isao Takahata's World Masterpiece Theatre series around the world like Heidi and Marco and Akage No Anne. I've heard personally from people in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Chile, South Africa, and now India that tell me at least one of those shows aired in that country. WMT seems to have been exported to most of the world, except for English-speaking countries. But now that I know an English version existed in India... that's kind of upsetting?
Why was WMT not released in America or Britain? I don't understand.
The English version is not a big secrete. The entire series has been re-dubbed into English on two separate occasions — first in the late 1970s, when the series was shown in the Philippines, and again in 2001 for broadcast in India on Cartoon Network. Although this dub was done by the animation studio for airing in India, they never included the English audio on subsequent DVD releases --wikipedia
Heidi aired in Canada back in the 1970s - in French. We also got the very early Fables of the Green Forest in English. We MAY have had Tom Sawyer at some point - it certainly looks familiar. Not sure about any of the others, but one would think at least Akage no Anne should have been shown here, seeing as how it is set in Canada.
Both 'A Dog of Flanders' and 'Anne of Green Gables' have been released on DVD with English/Chinese subtitles in the mid 2000's. I have both sets, as well as 'Marco', which also has English subs. HEIDI is the only one which was never released, even pirated, with English subs.
@ Alfredo do you mean this Anne of Green Gables release? http://www.amazon.com/Anne-Green-Gables-Anime-DVD/sim/B00405D84Q/2
Because I bought that within minutes of knowing it existed. Though I found it on some site I had never heard of, and it has only moved the popular sites like Amazon recently. But do you know who released it? Or why english subs were included? The box is fantastic-looking. Too much so to be a bootleg imo. There was also a release of Marco with a similar watercolor artwork box design which I similarly bought as fast as possible. Are they part of a collection? Are there more of them?
Yes, that is it. It is a box set containing the entire series, with Chinese and English subtitles. The second image in there is the actual box set cover. I got it back in 2004 or 2005. I have the Marco one and Dog of Flanders one as well as Daddy Long Legs and Perrine and the one about the Von Trapps. This is why I wish they were subbing HEIDI, because there have been versions of the other ones released, but never HEIDI.
Olá

ReplyDeleteWhen I release the next episode I will also released a "subs only" pack with all the subs I did so far, since so many people are asking for it.

ReplyDeleteAnne is airing in Quebec, or at least was airing in Quebec not too long ago. So yes, it did air in Canada.
